Dongfang Meiren
東方美人 · Oriental Beauty
Oolong
A tiny green insect makes this tea. It bites the summer leaves and drinks their sap, and the wounded plant answers with the compounds that turn into honey and grape in the cup. No insect, no Oriental Beauty. The gardens cannot be sprayed, so nobody sprays them.
The story goes that a farmer whose bitten crop sold for twice the usual price came home boasting about it, and his neighbours named the tea after him. Braggart's tea.
It is oxidised almost as far as a black tea. It pours ripe and golden, honey and soft fruit, and you will not find bitterness anywhere in it.
